How are tapes converted to a digital file?
Tapes are played through their entirety and captured digitally on our hardware and software. Each tape is quality checked by viewing portions of video. Once each tape is reviewed and finalised, they are sent back to you along with the digital copy.
How do I place an order?
You can place an order easily online through the shop, or simply submit a form in the contact us section with your order request, specifications, and any questions you may have.
Convert to USB, DVD or Online Copy?
Converting to a USB is ideal for playing on a laptop, computer, TV (with USB ports) and other USB supported devices. The video file can also be easily shared with your friends and family. When ordering online you will be able to select your preferred conversion option.
When converting to USB, a 32GB minimum USB or storage drive is required. We can provide one for $12, or you can send one with your tapes. You are welcome to order or provide as many USB copies as you need – perfect for sharing with family! Order more copies by clicking here, or simply let us know at checkout or over email.
There is also the option for an online copy of your tapes. This option is available when ordering online or can be requested over email. Online copy means your tapes are available online to download and share for 30 days following conversion completion. Cost is $1 per tape.
Converting to DVD is ideal for if you have any kind of DVD (DVD-R) player, which connects and plays on a TV or computer. One DVD will be needed for each tape. It may be difficult to copy and share them with friends, so if you’d like to share DVDs you can order additional DVDs by clicking here or through requesting at checkout or over email.
Are tapes edited?
The video footage extracted from the tape is in its raw condition and to its best possible condition, dependent on the tape. No audio or colour is altered in anyway. The only editing that may take place is to remove large periods of “black screens” to save on storage space, and this process ensures there is no other footage or audio on the tape.
What if my tape has mould or is broken?
Tapes in which the quality is impacted by mould or if there is visible mould are cleaned free of charge. We will also attempt to fix broken tapes (e.g. broken tape reel, problems playing, etc.) free of charge.
How does shipping work?
A shipping address is provided on order confirmation, or provided by us over email.
Please ensure your tapes are shipped securely to minimise movement
How are payments made?
Payments are made either via credit/debit card or bank account transfer. These options are presented at checkout.
If choosing bank account transfer, bank account details will be provided upon conversion completion.
Timeframe of Conversion?
Once your tapes are delivered to us, tapes will begin converting either immediately or within 24-48 hours. From there, we work through about 2 tapes a day. If you need tapes before a specific date, let us know and we can try make it happen!
Where are we based?
We’re based at home in Te Aro, Wellington. Tapes can be securely posted to us, or organised to be dropped off if you’re nearby. You’ll receive the postage address once you’ve placed your order, or when you contact us directly.
What if a tape does not play or convert properly?
We will try our best to solve the issue, however aged tapes can have defects that will cause them to no longer work – all tapes that are unable to be converted will be refunded or not charged for.
What counts as a successful conversion?
If a tape has content, being audio or video, regardless of the content it is included in the conversion and charged for.
How do I know which tapes are which?
Tapes are labeled and numberedwhich correspond to the tape on file.
E.g. A tape labeled “1” is named “TAPE 1” on the USB stick.
